What happens is part accident

I start with an idea or an image. It never goes the way I think

When I first started painting, I copied (more emulated) what I wanted to do and I found that it never went the way I intended. That’s okay. I’m not trying to be someone else.

One thing about me that’s probably weird: I can analyze handwriting. I’ve been doing that for 30 years, so when I see your handwriting, or, say, Abraham Lincoln’s, I see a personality and a fire that drives the person. The same goes for Painters. Whether it’s Van Gogh (love him and his craziness), or Caravaggio (what a temper!) or Monet (he loved hanging outside and having a glass of wine with friends to shoot the breeze) it all shows up. I see it in my own stuff, as well as everybody elses.

My tools

When I started, I used brushes and pallet knives, but I find a “batter spreader” a satisfying way of getting both large and small swoops of color. It can “cut” into an edge and draw color swathes together.

I’m also partial to using textured papers to create assemblages like the one above which depicts the mountains in Hawaii under the stars and the roiling ocean waters surrounding the islands.

Who am I

ASk me tomorrow

For now, I’m someone who likes to fiddle with AI Agents and the technical side of websites. I’m also someone who likes getting out there to touch the trees, and seeing other parts of the world. I invest in mortgage notes and real estate (check out Vineyardfund.com). The previous me has loved doing theatre and running a public relations business.
